OVERVIEW
This intensive, hands-on training provides attendees with a comprehensive review of the Linux essentials; the “how-to” knowledge required to administer and troubleshoot Linux; and the ability to design, build, and debug a Linux driver, in only 5 days!
The series includes the following workshops: Linux Boot Camp (1-Day), Linux System Administration using Red Hat (2-Days), and Introduction to the Linux Kernal and Linux Device Drivers (2- Days).
PRE-REQUISITES
Attendees should have practical experience using the Linux operating system.
LINUX BOOT CAMP:
This 1-day course presents a comprehensive review of the Linux essential concepts as well as the facilities, services, utilities, and programs. It provides a way to keep up with the changes and the trends in the operating system.
OBJECTIVES:
Attendees will be able to:
- Navigate the Linux file system
- Utilize the Linux commands
- Process the through commands using pipes and filters
- Configure the shell environment
LINUX SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION USING RED HAT:
This 2-day course covers the basic administration functions and tasks including installation; user and group administration; filesystem setup; NFS; SAMBA; NIS; Gnome; Xwindows configuration; basic administration tools, backup, and troubleshooting.
OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the course, attendees will be able to:
- Install Red Had Linux on X86 and non X86 hardware
- Create and maintain the Linux filesystem
- Perform user and group administration
- Setup NFS, NIS, and SMB/Samba
- Configure inetd and X windows
- Configure Gnome
- Perform basic system administration
- Network configuration
- Printer configuration
- Basic troubleshooting messages
- Configure Internet services
INTRODUCTION to LINUX KERNAL & LINUX DEVICE DRIVERS:
This 2-day course introduces the attendee on how to design, create, and implement drivers for character devices, block devices for Linux, and it also provides an introduction to the Linux kernel.
PRE-REQUISITES
Attendees should have practical experience in C programming, UNIX system calls, and understanding of Operating System architecture.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, attendees will be able to:
- Design a driver (character, block)
- Build a driver (character, block)
- Build and load modules
- Debug a driver
- Understand portability issues
- Understand timing
- Use memory management and DMA
- Understand the Linux kernel
